A new video offers a tribute to the late Sgt. Leonard Matlovich, a pioneer in the fight against the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian service members.

Matlovich, a Vietnam War veteran, died of AIDS complications on June 22, 1988. The video, released Tuesday from his friend and roommate Michael Bedwell, marks the 22nd anniversary of his death.

Matlovich is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C., where his tombstone reads, "When I was in the military, they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one."
