An Orlando area man said that vandals have scrawled two antigay messages and left a set of keys hanging in the front door of his Florida apartment in the past week to threaten him.
According to WFTV-TV, Collin Edouard considered the actions against him at the Seminole Pointe apartments to be hate crimes, but apartment management and the sheriff did not seem to take the threats as seriously. The sheriff report called the incidents "criminal mischief" enhanced by "prejudiced content."
"What's most frightening, on the same day that Edouard found that second message he also found a set of personal keys, with one key that apparently fit, sitting right in the lock of the front door," reported WFTV-TV. "The victim took it as a message that the criminals may return."
Following questions from the news station, apartment management said it would help Edouard move to a new complex without fees and deposits. Authorities have few leads on suspects.
