U.S. senator Saxby Chambliss's staff has confirmed that the senator's Atlanta office was the source of a threatening antigay slur posted Tuesday on the Joe.My.God. blog.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chambliss's staff determined the office was the source of the comment but has not found who posted it.
"The [Sergeant at Arms] has worked side by side with our personnel to determine whether the comment in question emanated from our office. That appears to be the case," said an unsigned statement from Chambliss's office cited by the Journal-Constitution.
"There has not been a determination as to who posted the comment," read the statement. "That part of the review is ongoing, and is now in the hands of the Senate Sergeant at Arms."
Hours after an effort to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy failed in the Senate on Tuesday, a commenter identified as "Jimmy" posted the slur "All f****ts must die" on the blog created by Joe Jervis. The blog author and readers worked to trace the comment to an IP address matching that of Chambliss's office.
