Kiss Raises Questions

The long-awaited smooch between Modern Family's gay couple, Mitchell and Cam, happens Wednesday night, but could it hurt ratings for the critical and commercial hit?

Fancast.com poses that question, and then answers it: "No, of course not." Same-sex kissing is no longer the taboo it was in the late '80s and early '90s, when audiences and advertisers scoffed at depictions of it in L.A. Law and Roseanne.

Regarding the kiss, the show's patriarch, Ed O'Neill, told Entertainment Weekly last June, "Who cares?" and added, "They're the most conservative family of the three."
