Mitcham to Dive at Commonwealth Games

Olympic gold medal diver Matthew Mitcham is preparing to dive this week at the India-hosted Commonwealth Games, and he has a cadre of fans there to cheer him on.

Sify.com reports that gay fans in New Delhi are organizing large groups to attend diving competitions featuring Mitcham.

"My friend called from Mumbai to say Mitcham was participating on Sunday and that we should do something. Immediately, I began sending out e-mails," said local gay man Mohnish Malhotra. "Mitcham is open about his sexuality. By going there and supporting him, we want to send out the message that we are fully supporting him."

Mitcham will compete in the 1m springboard, 10m platform, 3m springboard synchro, and 10m platform synchro.
