President Obama on Friday, in discussing the foiled terrorist plot involving packages delivered from Yemen, said two Chicago-area synagogues were believed to be targets. Now it appears that a gay congregation that meets at one of those synagogues was one of the more specific targets, Chicago's WLS Radio reports.
Rabbi Micahel Zedek of Emmanuel Congregation said Saturday morning that a Jewish leader "of considerable consequence in Chicago" told him that Or Chadash, a gay congregation that uses Emmanuel's synagogue, was one of the two targets.
Or Chadash rabbi Larry Edwards said his congregants "received [the news] rather calmly. ... Immediately, you kind of think, Well, [representing the gay community], maybe that makes us an additional target. ... It could be totally random, somebody went on the Internet and picked a couple of synagogues."
FBI officials declined to comment Saturday.
