Westboro to Picket Edwards Funeral

The virulently homophobic Westboro Baptist Church said Thursday it will picket the Saturday funeral of beloved political wife Elizabeth Edwards.

The protest will take place from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. near the funeral at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C.

The 61-year-old Edwards, the estranged wife of former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards, died Tuesday after a six-year battle with cancer. The Westboro Church -- really a family from Topeka, Kan. -- is upset over because the Edwardses "did not humble themselves before [God's] mighty hand" when their 16-year-old son died in a car accident.
