Sen. Scott Brown's former stepfather says most of what Brown said in his new memoir recalling their violent relationship is untrue.

In his new book, Against All Odds, Brown writes about becoming the subject of physical abuse by his stepfather, Frank "Larry" McShane, and sexual abuse by a camp counselor during his childhood.

McShane, who lives in Florida, told the Associated Press that Brown is looking for "the sympathy vote." He added that the senator's accounts of abuse are "90% lies or mistruths."

Brown's mother, Judith, and his sister Leeann Riley corroborate that McShane was violent toward all family members. Judith Brown said her marriage to McShane in the 1970s was "a horror show."
