The producers of Broadway's The Normal Heart are trying to raise the show's profile in advance of its April opening and raise some money for marriage equality.
If 10,000 people "Like" The Normal Heart's Facebook page before its April 27 opening night, the producers of the show will donate $10,000 to Freedom to Marry.
Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart dealt with the topic of marriage for same-sex couples long before it was a hot-button issue when it first premiered off-Broadway in 1985.
"We are honored to be partnering with the passionate team at The Normal Heart and appreciate their support of our efforts to win the freedom to marry nationwide," said Evan Wolfson, founder and president of Freedom to Marry. "The Normal Heart portrays a couple struggling with love, commitment, and vulnerability in a life crisis and was one of the first plays to talk about the freedom to marry for gay couples. Stories like this enrich the public conversation about why marriage matters."
The new production of The Normal Heart boasts an all-star cast, including Ellen Barkin, Joe Mantello, Lee Pace, and The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons.
