Irish Couple Calls for Marriage Rights

Barry Dignam (left) and Hugh Walsh, one of the first couples to celebrate a civil partnership when Ireland legalized them on Tuesday, are pushing their nation to enact marriage equality.

While pleased with the new civil union law, Dignam told The Irish Times newspaper, "This change is a pretty sizable change, although it is a pity it's not full marriage." Walsh echoed his partner's sentiments.

Aside from civil partnerships, Ireland has employment protections for its gay citizens and allows them to freely serve in the military.
