Jennifer Saunders Is Writing Movie
In addition to the three new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous recently filmed, series creator Jennifer Saunders plans to the write a feature film version of the cult hit, reports Deadline.
Absolutely Fabulous, which began on the sketch comedy series French & Saunders as a segment called "Modern Mother and Daughter," aired on BBC from 1992 to 1995 and has been revived periodically. The series, a huge favorite with gay viewers, followed the outrageous lives of two eccentric best friends, Edina (Saunders), a PR guru, and Patsy (Joanna Lumley), a sex-crazed magazine editor. BBC America recently coproduced three new AbFab TV specials, the first of which will air in the U.K. at Christmas and is expected to air on the Logo network in 2012.
The entertainment website reveals a few details, saying the film adaptation "will kick off with Patsy and Edina waking up hung-over in the empty drifting yacht of an oligarch in the middle of the ocean. Even worse, their cellphones can't get a signal."
"I think she's a genius," Christine Langan, head of BBC Films, said of Saunders. "I can't imagine anything more exciting than working with her."
