Rope bondage photographer Thiktool encourages everyone to “let their freak flag fly.” Read all about it below.
Thiktool is a rope bondage photographer based in Brooklyn. His motto in life is for everyone to embrace their deviant proclivities and "let their freak flag fly." His interest in rope bondage started from his experience working with macrame at age 11, so you could say that his first rope suspension was of plants in their terra cotta pots.
He is an avid reader of science fiction and draws inspiration for his artistic practice from their speculative utopias of queer possibilities. His favorite writers include Samuel L. Delany, Iain M. Banks, and Melissa Scott, among others. He prefers to work with nonprofessional models and makes a deliberate choice to work with a variety of male bodies (in a variety of shapes, sizes, and ethnicities) to draw out the erotic potential of each subject in rope. It is important for the photograph to serve as a memento for the intense and intimate session he shares with his subjects, and a representation of the experience of domination and submission. As such, his photos are characterized by their capture of sensuality in action.
