When Tina Healy came out to her mother as transgender nearly four years ago, she got the reaction everyone hopes for -- her mom was incredibly supportive.
Now that her mother has dementia, Healy has to come out all over again each time she visits; her mother doesn't remember she transitioned. But every time Healy tells her mom her truth, what happens next is amazing.
Without fail, Healy's mother repeatedly shows the same unconditional love she first did years ago. "At the end of it, she said, 'Well,' she said, 'What do you know? ... I've got a beautiful new daughter,'" Healy told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
"I go and see Mum every few weeks and she's forgotten each time, and every time I tell her again, she gives me just the same beautiful reaction that she did exactly the same, almost word for word, every time. I'm kind of the luckiest one of all because I get to come out to Mum 100 times a year, and every time, she's beautiful."
