Congressman: I'll Block D.C. Marriage

Jason Chaffetz x 390 (.gov)

Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz told TheSalt Lake Tribune that he'd do whatever he could to block the marriage equality bill that passed in the Washington, D.C., council on Tuesday. Chaffetz, a Republican member of the subcommittee that oversees the District of Columbia, recognizes that blocking the law will be a challenge, but says he will do what he can to stand in its way.

"It's going to be exceptionally difficult because Democrats have us outnumbered by large amounts," he told the  Tribune. "Nevertheless, we're going to try."

Chaffetz's stand against marriage isn't a new one. Speaking of gay marriage with the Associated Press in October, he said, "Some fights are worth fighting for. This is one of them,"

Once the same-sex marriage ordinance is signed by D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Congress will have 30 days to review  it before it can become law.

According to the Deseret News, in the past 25 years Congress has rejected only three pieces of D.C. legislation.

Listen you little Mormon piece of shít. Your white trash, theocratic state already has a constitutional amendment banning any recognition of any same-sex relationship. Why do you feel so compelled to rub your nose in the District's business? Wouldn't your time be better spent cracking down on all the under-the-table polygamous marriages being solemnized in southern Utah? You know, the people IN YOUR OWN DAMNED BACK YARD violating your precious definition of marriage as "one man ONE woman"?

I know, don't you just hate it when liberal states like yours adopt DOMAs and constitutional amendments protecting traditional marriage. Boy they must really hate you in Oregon. Hurry up and hitch a ride to on the gay underground railroad and flee to Canada! Those darn Republicans are at it again! Especially Lincoln, yeah the founder of the GOP, yeah that guy, he really hated gay people so much that he killed them all in the civil war, oh so did Taft, Nixon, Ford, oh and Reagan who fought against prop 6 that would have fired gay teachers in California, yeah that guy, and Goldwater who fought for inclusion of gays in the military yeah that guy too, how dare he! Oh and Bush the guy who appointed a gay man as ambassador to Romania, oh yes! Wait a minute! Wasn't Bush the one that went after those poor innocent anti-gay homophobic jihadists... those who kill gays... yeah those. Oh gee, Bush was a mean bro! .... The mind of liberal never ceases to amaze me.

How many anti-gay Republicans does it take for GayElephant to get a clue?? This guy is doing the same thing that most Republicans do, showing complete and total disapproval for LGBT people. Its the Republican party that promotes discrimination against LGBT in the military, will stop at nothing to prevent marriage equality, and has been linked to the "kill the gays" legislation in Uganda. The Democratic party is hardly perfect, but at least they show support for LGBT issues, instead of wallowing in undiluted hatred.

this guy is a fake... he is only doing it make his donors happy. There were times when the GOP needed him on important issues and he gave them the finger, and given the fact that there is so much at stake right now on other issues, the GOP leadership in the house will do the same.

Let's hope this monster and his Republican cronies all have opening gay/lesbian children. I wonder what would happen if he said this about any other minority group? Of yeah, he wouldn't, because they wouldn't stand for it.
