Report: Atlanta Gay Bar Raided

ATLANTA EAGLE BAR X390 (COURTESY) | ADVOCATE.COM

The Atlanta Eagle was raided by police late Thursday night and staff members and dancers were arrested in an incident that witnesses characterize as “harassment.”

According to a witness's account published on the Atlanta Progressive News website, about 10 police cars and 15 police officers raided the gay bar around 11:30 p.m., allegedly searching for drugs. Several staff members and male dancers were arrested for reasons that remain unclear in the developing story. One source told APN that unlicensed dancers prompted the arrests.

Police, some of whom were initially in the bar undercover, reportedly asked each patron individually to show identification before they were allowed to leave the bar. Some patrons complained about “aggressive treatment,” according to the APN.

“The police were said to have ordered all patrons to get on the ground -- including patrons who were just dancing or standing at the bar -- and numerous patrons said people were handcuffed indiscriminately," reported the APN. "Bar patrons were furious at the aggressive and indiscriminate treatment and called the incident ‘harassment.’”

The problem is that the straight bars are not the ones being singled out. Get the picture?

What is wrong with these people. A sad time in America where we are not allowed to be ourselves. Shame shame on those police officers, I pray that they never fell the discrimination that they inflict upon us.

Samuel and Jason: The police searched over 60 patrons of the bar and found no weapons or drugs. Then they went for the ID's. They brought in a laptop and ran a background check on everyone there. There was not so much as an unpaid parking ticket in the group. Pretty hedonistic, don't you think. Failing everything else, they arrested gogo dancers for dancing in their underwear (a legal activity in Atlanta) merely to save face. The business licence has been current and in good standing for 23 years, so this is not a problem business. Those arrested will be arraigned tommorrow. We expect charges to be dropped and a full investigation of the officers involved.
