The gay Republican group GOProud released a 30-second ad Thursday attacking congressional Democrats, including openly gay Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, who the group calls "catty."

A spoof on the popular Real Housewives TV franchise, the ad features the "Real Democrats of Washington, D.C." In addition to targeting Frank, it focuses on Sen. Barbara Boxer and House speaker Nancy Pelosi, both of California.

"If you thought the housewives were dysfunctional, wait until you meet the real Democrats of Washington, D.C.," the spot begins. "They're catty! They're arrogant! And they're in charge! Under Democrats, reality bites!"

The ad buy, which is in the $50,000 range according to The New York Times, includes placement in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and New York.

GOProud's chairman, Christopher R. Barron, tells the Times, "We are running this ad because it is time that Democrats were held accountable and because we believe all voters, including gay and lesbian voters, deserve better than the behavior from this Congress. ... We believe strongly that if you want to grow our economy and create more jobs for gay people, and for all Americans, then the best thing voters can do is fire Democrats."
