Was Richard Simmons Born This Way?

Mark, I don't see the problem with him never saying he was gay. Do you tell people about your personal life?? People you don't even know? Maybe that's because he was NEVER asked? I am gay and not a single person has asked me about it. Even tho a few have said derogatory remarks about fags when i was with them. Yeah, they probably know but if it REALLY bothers them that much, why dont they just ask me???

I think the days of having to come out publicly are over--or should be. It's old school and we need to progress and stop worrying about which celebs have and which haven't come out publicly. And yes, it was on an Oprah show that he said he was gay.

@Mark how do you want him to come out, he lives openly with his male partner and I don't recall whenever asked him denying that he was gay. In fact I believe it was on Oprah that he made the statement that he was as gay as Mardi Gras. What do you think he should do, take out a half page ad in Variety and confess to the world that the thing we always thought about him, that he was flamboyant and slightly effeminate are true, that he's gay. @Mark I suggest you go to the local library and get his biography and learn something about him, he was the fat kid in school picked on and beat up and he still lives with that fat kid in his head do you think he is going to come out and admit to something that in day was illegal, immoral and would get him beat up worse or even killed. At least he doesn't try to be something he is not, he just doesn't label it like you think is so necessary. In his own bizarre way Richard has done a lot for gay people just by being Richard.

I love it! This man doesn't need to come out, really. Come on, now. Give the older generations a break--they did enough for us to bring equality this far. At least he's not running around in a rainbow speedo waving a pride flag through the streets... I mean, good for you if you do that, but it's kind of humiliating when people assume all gays are SuperGay coming to accost the world in a banana hammock. Haha (I'm kidding)

The Lady GG character IS the real him. That thing yipping around in hot pants for the past 25 was his drag character.

Sad to know that people who happen to be gay can still be anti-gay ... just like Christians can be anti-Christian and anti-Semetic (even as they pray to an orthodox Jew) ... and not all gays are accepting of cross dressers, especially straight ones (which 90% are!). Where is the Love and Respect for others?!
