A Newark, N.J., man was indicted Monday on charges of murder and bias intimidation in the September death of a transgender woman.

On the night of September 12, 2010, Victoria Carmen White, 28, was out dancing with her cousin when she met Alrashim Chambers, 24, and Marquise Foster, 26. Friends and family of White say the four returned to the cousin's apartment, where an altercation led to White being shot multiple times.

Investigators believe Chambers killed White after learning that the lingerie model, who nine years earlier had undergone gender reassignment surgery, was transgender.

Chambers and Foster surrendered to police in October. In addition to murder and bias intimidation, Chambers was also indicted on two weapons charges.
