A 19-unit housing complex for people with HIV/AIDS opened last week in Pinole, Calif., completing a three-year planning and construction process for the residence, The Contra Costa Times reports. A grand-opening ceremony was held September 4. The complex, called Alvarez Court, was built by Resources for Community Development, a Berkeley, Calif.-based nonprofit housing organization. Funding was provided by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, grants from the county's Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS program, and the Pinole Redevelopment Agency.
