New York City council speaker Christine Quinn wants to inform her city's gay couples that there are plenty of places they can legally marry — even if it's not the Empire State.
Quinn, gay herself, wants the city clerk to inform those who apply for domestic partnerships that Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington, D.C., all allow same-sex marriage. Though New York State has failed several times at enacting marriage equality, the Big Apple recently began performing marriage-like ceremonies for domestic partners.
