Trickery Behind Anchorage Gay Rights Defeat?

The ACLU and the Anchorage city attorney want to know why the city ran out of ballots during Tuesday's vote for a gay rights ordinance that went down in defeat.

Some voters reported being told their polling places ran out of ballots, leading people to race around town to other polls and others to simply give up. The city attorney is investigating the matter, though it's not yet clear whether the controversy will invalidate the vote. On top of the ballot shortage, there was always a high number of disputed votes, according to the Anchorage Daily News. Since the gay rights ordinance went down by such a large margin, it's unlikely that the disputed votes would change the results.
