Elizabeth Taylor Street in West Hollywood?

West Hollywood residents are calling for a street to be named after actress and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor, who died last week at age 79.

According to L.A. Weekly, Michelle Rex, the interim deputy for councilman John D'Amico, says residents have been calling and writing City Hall to suggest the street naming, but there has not yet been any formal discussion among city leaders.

Taylor, a major early force in AIDS fund-raising, spent time at West Hollywood spots including the Abbey, where she sipped shots of tequila.

"West Hollywood City Council members -- four out of five of whom are gay -- have historically loved voting for official bans and proclamations, beating other metropolises to the punch on a variety of issues," reports L.A. Weekly. "Now they have a chance to do something truly deserved and something residents very much want."
