Lesbian writer-director Lisa Cholodenko, noted for such movies as Laurel Canyon and High Art, has signed on to direct the Showtime original film Cavedweller. Final casting decisions are still being made, but Kyra Sedgwick will star and serve as a co-executive producer. Her husband, Kevin Bacon, will take a supporting role. Cavedweller is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by out author Dorothy Allison, who also wrote Bastard Out of Carolina, another book that went on to become a Showtime film. The novel chronicles the return of a rock singer (Sedgwick) to her hometown in Georgia, where her kids remained with the abusive husband she left behind. Cavedweller goes into production later this year.
