Sean Connery, Alan Cumming, and U.K.-based American comic Ruby Wax are among the top-flight names to become attached to the animated short film Billy the Vet, the film's producers said. The 20-minute short details the story of a remote Scotland-based international musical community held together by an eccentric vet (to be voiced by Connery). The intention is to turn the film into a television series. "We have been overawed by the support from the cast and their agreement to get on board with such a small-scale production, and one hopes that this is testament to the project's potential," said Vet creator Sascha Hartmann, joint managing director of project Glasgow Animation. The project has taken almost two years to develop, and the company has invested about PS500,000 ($839,000) to date. The producers have completed a three-minute animated teaser and are looking to raise another PS500,000 to complete the financing.
