Out producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have set up a musical revival of Peter Pan for ABC. The remake comes 50 years after NBC broadcast the first live television version, starring Mary Martin. Zadan and Meron are currently in Toronto producing Hairspray for New Line and plan to have the project completed for broadcast toward the end of 2007.

Zadan and Meron have wanted to do Peter Pan since 1993, when they worked with Pan composer Jule Styne on their TV version of Gypsy, reports Daily Variety. Zadan said, "It is not unlike what we're doing for Hairspray. We're not taking the shows verbatim and putting them on film. We're reinventing them while honoring the basic material" (The Advocate)
