Grease goes to reality TV

NBC has put into motion the production of a new Broadway-themed reality competition show titled You're the One That We Want, a talent search based on the cast revival of Grease, set to open next June.

The show is slated to air mid-season, and viewers will select the actors to play the roles of good girl Sandy Dumbrowski and rebel Danny Zuko. The winners will then star in the Broadway production, which will open at the Rialto with Kathleen Marshall serving as choreographer. BBC Worldwide, the company behind Dancing With the Stars, will produce.

"This is not some tacky show; this is the real thing," said BBC Worldwide director of content Wayne Garvie. "This is a credible attempt to find two young Americans who will have a proper role on Broadway, in two of the great musical theater roles." (The Advocate)
