The U.K.'s Independent on Sunday newspaper on Sunday released its annual Pink List of 101 notable LGBT people, boasting 28 new entries from the year before. Topping the list is Russell T. Davies, screenwriter for the groundbreaking Queer as Folk, who was named Industry Player of the Year at the Edinburgh International Television Festival in Scotland. "Populist and clever, this genius was the overwhelming choice of our panel," the article said of Davies. Currently the screenwriter is penning a successful BBC show, a remake of Dr. Who.

Other honorees include Henry Badenhorst, founder and owner of gaydar.co.uk; Peter Mandelson, trade commissioner for the European Union; and novelist Sarah Waters.

Also included are long-standing gay icons Sir Elton John, Boy George, Rupert Everett, and Sir Ian McKellen. (The Advocate)
