The Gay and
Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has announced a
collaboration with the Outfest Legacy Project for LGBT Film
Preservation, a partnership between Outfest and the
University of California, Los Angeles, Film and
Television Archive, according to a GLAAD press
release. Beginning this month GLAAD will donate the films
and videos it accumulates to the Legacy Project, which
aims to preserve and restore the materials. The
announcement coincides with the 25th anniversary of
Outfest, the Los Angeles LGBT film festival.
Previously, GLAAD
donated film and television archives to One National
Gay and Lesbian Archives, says the release. One donated its
collection of 1,500 films and 3,000 videos, including
those given by GLAAD, to the Outfest Legacy
Project in March of this year, doubling the project's
holdings. It already had the world's largest publicly
accessible collection of LGBT films.
The Outfest
Legacy Project for LGBT Film Preservation was launched in
2005. The first film it has restored, 1986's Parting
Glances, will be shown at the Outfest Legacy Gala
on July 16. (The Advocate)
