Sean Penn and
Matt Damon are both attached to Gus Van Sant's biopic
chronicling San Francisco politician Harvey Milk and his
assassin, Dan White.
Producers Craig
Zadan and Neil Meron have pushed a film adaptation of the
1982 Randy Shilts book The Mayor of Castro
Street for more than 15 years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While Penn has
not played gay on-screen, he portrayed an ambiguous Olivia
Newton-John impersonator in the 2001 Beaver
Trilogy. Damon would play White, who shot Milk and mayor
George Moscone. White committed suicide in 1985 after
serving five years in prison.
Production on the
film may begin as early as December. (The Advocate)
