The acclaimed documentary Derek, which premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition, has been acquired by the Film Sales Company.

Written and narrated by 2007 Academy Award nominee Tilda Swinton and directed by artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien, Derek examines the life of iconic artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman. The film journeys through Jarman's life from the 1960s through the late '80s.

Film Sales Company president Andrew Herwitz reports that his firm has acquired worldwide sales and U.S. distribution rights for the documentary.

"Andrew's passion for the film and understanding of the distinct and varied audiences for the movie made this a perfect fit for his company," said Julien.

The film is expected to premiere in the United States later this year. (The Advocate)
