Comedian Roseanne Barr appears to be softening her harsh comments for singer Marie Osmond, whose son committed suicide late last month. Last week, prompted by media reports that Michael Blosil was depressed about being gay and Mormon, Barr blasted his famous mother for not standing up to the church.
Barr wrote a blog post titled "Marie Osmond's Poor Gay Son Killed Himself" after the 18-year-old leapt to his death from his apartment building in downtown Los Angeles. The Osmond family has pushed against reports that Blosil was gay.
But now Barr appears to be retracting her attack, according to RadarOnline.com.
"I see Marie Osmond as a decent and strong woman, who can make a huge change in her sphere one day," wrote Barr on her blog. "The Mormon church reversed its ban on African American members, and it can also reverse its gay agenda. Marie is the kind of person who can make that her life's work, and accomplish it," she said.
Barr also commended Osmond for returning to work in show business immediately after her son's funeral, scheduled for Monday.
"Mormon women are some of the world's strongest women," said Barr. "Marie is going back to work in her Las Vegas show the day after her son's funeral. She is that strong in her focus and determination, and I do admire that. Good Luck on all you do, Marie. You have so much power to turn the wrong things around!"
