Officials in Riverside County, Calif., have given the green light for the $1 million purchase of five acres of land in Palm Springs to build a new medical clinic and a housing facility for HIV-positive people, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports. The land is located adjacent to the Desert AIDS Project offices. St. Louis-based developer McCormack Baron will build an 80-unit apartment complex on half of the land, which will be called Vista Sunrise Apartments; the other half will house a county-run medical clinic. Construction on the apartment complex and clinic is expected to begin this fall. The Desert AIDS Project will provide tenants with a variety of support services, including job training, employment counseling, legal services, psychiatric services, and case management.
