Having more than two drinks a day could increase the risk of colon cancer, according to a study released Tuesday by the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Three or more drinks a day could increase the risk of that cancer by 26%, the study said. The study's findings appeared to back the view that moderate alcohol intake can actually yield physical benefits. When men consume more than two drinks a day, or women drink more than one, alcohol potentially can do harm.

"The heart benefits that have been associated with alcohol occur at relatively low levels of consumption," Karen Collins, a doctor associated with the AICR, said in a press release. "When it comes to alcohol and overall health, we know one thing for sure--more is not better." (The Advocate)
