Joan Jett sues Prey for Rock & Roll

Rocker Joan Jett is suing the producers of would-be movie Prey for Rock & Roll, saying she hasn't been paid for her work on the film, according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday. The movie is based on the off-Broadway play by lesbian writer Cherie Lovedog, who cowrote the script; the film of Prey also features music by out composer Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch).

Jett said she was paid only $20,000 of the $100,000 she was due for music for the film's soundtrack and for a movie appearance she was scheduled to make, according to the suit filed in U.S. district court for the southern district of New York. Film production stopped in May and was revived in July. Producers told Jett that if they paid her the remainder of the $100,000, it would break the movie, the suit said. Jett is suing the backers of Prey LLC, controlled by a New Jersey businessman, and Los Angeles-based GMR Productions for at least triple the $80,000 salary she said she is owed. GMR could not be reached immediately for comment.
