The legislative debate on banning marriage between members of the same sex began anew at the Massachusetts statehouse Monday during a standing-room-only public hearing before the judiciary committee. The panel must decide by Wednesday whether to recommend a joint session of the house and senate that would consider a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. The last attempt to win passage of such an amendment died nine months ago.
