Stone Soup Theatre Arts presents the first known New York production of Stone by Edward Bond and The Maguffin by Adam Hunault for a limited engagement run from April 5 through April 28 at the Actor's Theatre Workshop in New York City.
Stone, originally commissioned by England's Gay Sweatshop Theatre in the 1970s, is a chilling fairy tale that follows a young man who is asked to deliver a stone to a mason's house. Over the course of the play the stone grows into a boulder. In Stone Soup Theatre's reimagining of the play, half-human, half-puppet characters are used to explore the notion of who is puppet and who is puppeteer.
The Maguffin, also with half-human, half-puppet characters, explores contemporary politics including issues like marriage equality.
The plays run at the Actor's Theatre Workshop at 145 West 28th St., 3rd floor, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m., April 5-28.
