Fred Phelps, leader of the maliciously antigay Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., Is slated to picket funerals for victims of the Interstate 35-West bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis.

According to a flier posted on the church's Web site, GodHatesFags.com, the protests, or "love crusades" as they are called, will begin Wednesday with the funeral of Sherry Lou Engebretsen.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Fred Phelps and church attorney, said that God has turned his back on America and Minnesota for its tolerance of LGBT people, according to the Twin Cities Daily Planet Web site.

"The bridge stood in place by the word of God and it fell by the word of God," she said in the article. "Each of these little events is just a harbinger of the coming destruction of this American experiment. We are delivering the final call of the doomed nation." (The Advocate)
