"Cutest Couple" at Illinois High School

Waukegan High School in Illinois has a refreshing new "cutest couple" for its annual senior yearbook. Two girls who met during drama class won the moniker last week, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. Officials originally planned to eliminate the category after voting revealed that the lesbian couple had won. English teacher and yearbook adviser Jason Blair said the decision originally came in response to concerns raised by the girls' parents.

"One girl's mom wouldn't have wanted all the attention drawn to it," Blair told the Sun-Times. "We were trying to prevent anyone getting embarrassed."

But instead of omitting the yearbook section completely, the "cutest couple" page will now include a picture of the girls along with five opposite-sex couples who received runner-up votes. (The Advocate)
