Officer Michael Verdugo was placed on paid administrative by the Hollywood, Fla., police department after authorities discovered that Verdugo may have starred in a gay pornography film in 1996, South Florida's NBC Channel 6 reported online Friday.
"I think when you have a certain lifestyle in the 21st century, you're always going to be subject to heightened scrutiny," Verdugo's attorney Al Milian told NBC.
Milian told NBC that since Verdugo's sexual orientation was revealed in 2004, the officer has been subject to discrimination and harassment.
Verdugo, who was also a contestant on HGTV's reality show "Design Star," joined the Florida police force in 2001.
Milian has refused to confirm or deny Verdugo's involvement in the film. (The Advocate)
