Gender Spectrum
announces its second annual conference, the Gender
Spectrum Family Conference, for gender-variant and
transgender children, their families, loved ones, and
medical and mental health providers at the Washington
State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Saturday
through Sunday, August 30-31.
This year marks
the second year of programs, family activities, and
workshops on the topic of gender variance and children. This
conference is one of the only opportunities in the
country for families of gender-variant children to
gather valuable resources, networking opportunities,
and information all in one place.
Workshops at the
conference will include presentations by Stephanie
Brill, nationally respected gender specialist and author of
The Transgender Child: A Handbook for Families
and Professionals; Shannon Minter, legal
director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights; Beth
Reis from Seattle's Safe Schools Coalition; and Michele
Angello and Diane Ehrensaft, leading psychotherapists
who specialize in work with gender-variant children
and their families.
Recreational and
social events will include two family brunches, a pizza
and pool party for kids, and a day camp filled with various
activities.
