As previously reported
by Advocate.com, Beau Breedlove, the former lover of gay
Portland, Ore., mayor Sam Adams, agreed to pose for the May
cover of
Unzipped
magazine -- and the cover is now available to
check out online
.
"The May
Unzipped
may be the most highly anticipated issue in the magazine's
history," says David Kalmansohn, editorial director for
Unzipped Media. "Bloggers and chat rooms have been heatedly
debating the merits -- or demerits -- of Beau Breedlove's
upcoming interview and pictorial. Should we embrace Beau as a
symbol of sexual emancipation in what is still a homophobic and
sexphobic society? Or do we dismiss him as just another highly
beddable boy toy? Our readers can make their own call."
Breedlove was thrust
into the spotlight in January, when Adams
admitted to having an affair
with the former state legislature intern. The affair reportedly
took place in 2005, when Adams was a Portland city commissioner
and Breedlove was 18 years old.
Adams had previously
maintained their relationship was strictly platonic.
Unzipped
's website, Unzipped.net, quickly became the go-to
destination for all things Breedlove when editors
posted a photo gallery
of pictures from Breedlove's now deleted MySpace page. When
interest in the photos took off, the magazine extended an offer
for Breedlove to appear on the cover. Breedlove agreed to the
offer for an undisclosed amount of money.
Unzipped.net will
continue to roll out photos and sneak peaks of the Breedlove
issue in coming weeks. The May issue of Unzipped will be on
newsstands in mid April.
