A judge in Majorca, Spain, has determined that Boyzone singer Stephen Gately died of natural causes and that the alcohol and marijuana found in his system did not contribute to his death.
"The death was due to natural causes," Judge Carmen Abrines said in a statement. "There were no signs of violence."
An autopsy found that Gately suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition, which thickened his arteries and caused cardiac arrest.
Gately died last year while vacationing in Spain with his partner, Andy Cowles. Bulgarian model Georgi Dochev was with Cowles and Gately the morning the singer was found dead. He later admitted in an interview the three had been sleeping together for more than two years.
