On an August 31 appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Rachel Maddow revealed that her weeklong absence from her news-based program on MSNBC was due to H1N1 virus, commonly known as "swine flu." During the interview, Maddow also disclosed that while recuperating at home she read "comic books about Palestine and Sarajevo" and that her first date with her partner, artist Susan Mikula, was at a shooting range.
