President Barack Obama has nominated a Minnesota policewoman to become a U.S. marshal; she would be the first openly gay person to wear the badge.
Sharon Lubinski is an assistant chief in the Minneapolis Police Department, where she has worked for 20 years, reports the Associated Press.
Other positions in his administration to which Obama has appointed or nominated openly gay people include the director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and the U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.
