The Washington Blade isn't the only recently shuttered gay publication with a former editorial staff eager to move forward.
Following
Blade editor Kevin Naff's Wednesday announcement that his team would be launching a new online and print publication titled
DC Agenda, the former owner and editor of the
Southern Voice together have launched an effort to resurrect the Atlanta-based newspaper that folded last week after owner Window Media and United Media filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
"I was upset for about two hours," Chris Cash, the
Southern Voice founder who sold the paper to Window Media in 1997, told
The Atlanta Journal Constitutionin an interview published Monday. "That's about how much time I had to be upset before my mind clicked to, 'What now,' which is the most important thing."
As a result, Cash and former
Voice editor Laura Douglas-Brown launched
SaveSoVo.com. They are seeking donations from
Voice readers in order to relaunch an online news publication with a print companion under a different name, since the duo do not own rights to the original
Southern Voice title.
"Our vision now is a community-owned, community-led LGBT news outlet that focuses on reporting LGBT issues in Atlanta and beyond," Douglas-Brown writes on the site.
