Nate Berkus, known widely as Oprah Winfrey's resident design guru, filed a lawsuit on Tuesday alleging poor construction of his office roof.

Nate Berkus Associates is seeking more than $50,000 in the suit against Pierport Roofing & Construction, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The lawsuit claims that construction in 2005 on the roof caused water damage to Berkus's Chicago office two years later.

Berkus claims that after defendants recaulked the area it continued to leak. When responding to further complaints, the roofing company sought to be paid for its work to address the problem.

Berkus has long been a regular on The Oprah Winfrey Show. In addition to offering design advice to viewers, he made an emotional appearance on the show in 2005 in which he talked about the disappearance and presumed death of his boyfriend, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, during 2004's devastating Indian Ocean tsunami.

The couple had been vacationing in Sri Lanka when the tsunami hit.
