San Francisco Eyes Rainbow Honor Walk

Del-martin

A San Francisco Board of Supervisors committee on Monday gave key backing to what could soon be a Rainbow Honor Walk, commemorating pioneers and historical events in the gay rights movement, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

"I think it's an idea whose time has come," said Supervisor Bevan Dufty, who is the chief sponsor of the resolution in support of the project.

The walk, which would be privately funded, would include plaques embedded in the sidewalk along a number of streets in the city's Castro District. Each plaque would provide a brief history of a person or event. David Perry, a public relations specialist helping organize the project, says former city supervisor Harvey Milk and lesbian pioneers Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon are among the first people he'd like to see honored.
