A complaint was filed with the California Fair Political Practices
Committee against the Mormon Church for its failure to report all
nonmonetary donations to the Proposition 8 campaign in 2008.
Activist Fred Karger, the head of Californians Against Hate and a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2012, filed the complaint, which tallies nearly $37,000 in unreported contributions by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is demanding that the church pay a $5,539 penalty for the underreporting.
In January 2009 the church also admitted to failing to report $190,000 worth of in-kind contributions to the Yes on 8 effort, according to the Human Rights Campaign.
Fines for the Mormon Church?
