Alan Medinger, a prominent leader in the "ex-gay" group Exodus International, died Monday, Exodus International announced on its website.

Medinger was the first executive director of Exodus North America. He started Regeneration Ministries, which is the Exodus affiliate in the Baltimore and Northern Virginia areas.

According to Regeneration's website, the organization's mission is to be "a Christian ministry of healing and support for men and women wanting to overcome homosexual brokenness."

Medinger died days after the 35th Freedom Conference, an annual gathering of churches and support groups that offer ex-gay counseling.
