In what has been considered a first for U.K.'s conservative party, Guy Black, an openly gay Tory, took his seat in the House of Lords on Tuesday.


Black, 45, and his partner, Mark Bolland, were joined in a civil partnership in 2006, Pink News reports.

The former director of the Press Complaints Commission, an independent U.K. watchdog organization, was appointed to a House of Lords seat in May.
